What Happens When You Focus on the Journey Instead of the Outcome

Hi my friend,

I've got a story for you.

Picture this:

I'm sweating and it's 15 degrees out.

My heart is racing and all I can hear is heavy breathing.

I look up and see the most beautiful cloud inversion and the blue sky surrounding the most beautiful snow covered mountain I've ever seen.

How is that real? I whisper to myself and to Chad who is also breathing heavy.

We continue onward and I pause often to look up and take it all in.

The views get more and more beautiful and still I wrestle with wanting to just be at the top already.

Do you know that overwhelming feeling of just wanting to get there?

Do you know that overwhelming feeling of just wanting to be done already?

These are the exact feelings that arise while hiking in the mountains of Alaska and at my desk while working sometimes.

How about you?

Wishing away our current situation is no way to live.

The outcome isn't what brings us the most joy.

I've realized that embracing the journey instead of focusing on the outcome is the way to feel more presence, fulfillment, and ease in the process.

Because guess what? When we get to the top we celebrate for 3 minutes and then we get to descend back down the mountain and another journey begins.

And how beautiful it is to realize that most of our life is in the journey versus the goals and outcomes we achieve.

Here is your reminder to stay in the process and embrace every step you take.

Hit reply and send a message back if this resonated with you.

I'd love to hear from you!

Journal Prompts for focusing on the journey 📓

  • What small steps have you taken recently that you feel proud of, even if you haven’t reached the final goal yet?

  • How can you bring more gratitude into your daily efforts, regardless of the results?

  • What would it feel like to release control of the outcome and fully trust the process?
