Begin Again, Gently (a soft return to your practice)

Hi my friend,

There are seasons when I drift from my practice.

Not because I don’t care…
But because life gets full.
My mind feels loud.
My heart feels tender.
And the idea of sitting still feels like just one more thing on the list.

Can you relate?

It’s in these moments I forget how soft a return can be.
That coming back to meditation doesn’t have to be a grand gesture—it can be a quiet whisper.
A breath.
A pause.
A moment to close my eyes and remember: Oh, right. I’m here.

If your practice has been on pause—or if you’ve been holding guilt about it—this is your reminder:

You don’t need to restart perfectly.
You just need to return kindly.

Here are 5 ways to reconnect with your practice, gently:

  1. A Breath is Enough. Not ready to sit for 15 minutes? That’s okay. Take one slow, intentional breath. Maybe place a hand on your heart and breathe a deep breath one more time. Feel into it. Notice the subtle shift it brings you. This counts. This is practice.

  2. Let Your Senses Anchor You. Touch the mug in your hands. Notice the sunlight. Feel the texture of your clothes. Breathe in the fresh air. When the world feels like too much, let one simple sensation bring you back to right now.

  3. Ask Your Heart One Question. Instead of diving into a full meditation, try this: Place your hand over your chest. Close your eyes (if that feels right).
And ask: What do I need right now? Let the answer rise gently.

  4. Make Space for the Imperfect. You don’t need the quiet room, the right cushion, or even a full 10 minutes. Sit messy. Sit distracted. Sit tired. Sometimes I just lay outside, look at the sky, watch the clouds and the trees sway in the wind and that is my practice. Sometimes I turn on meditation music and breathe then I end up taking a nap and that is my practice. The act of showing up exactly as you are is the practice.

  5. Speak to Yourself with Kindness. Not “I should meditate more.” But: “I miss myself. I want to come back home.” Let your return be filled with love, not with pressure or negativity.

Remember, my friend, there are no rules.

The beauty is, you get to return as many times as you need.

No pressure. No perfection. Just presence and loving awareness.

You’re doing better than you think. 💛
