What to do if you’ve stopped meditating.
Hi my friend,
I've had moments in life where, well, life happens and I forget to check in with my heart daily.
My meditation practice falls to the back burner.
I know I should meditate, however I feel too much urgency in life so it feels like there is no where I have the time.
I know there is a lot going on so I resist sitting with it all.
Have you been here?
If you’ve been feeling out of rhythm with your practice—or judging yourself for not being consistent—here are 5 gentle ways to begin again, without pressure or perfection:
1. Start with a 2-Minute Sit
Give yourself permission to start small. Set a timer for just two minutes. Turn inward. Breathe. Let this be enough. You don’t need the perfect environment or a 30-minute meditation. You just need a moment of presence.
2. Turn Daily Moments into Mindfulness
Let your practice live within your life, not separate from it. Washing dishes? Notice the warmth of the water. Driving? Feel the rhythm of your breath as you witness your thoughts pass by. These in-between moments are perfect invitations to return to yourself.
3. Remember 'Habit Stacking'
One of the easiest ways to rebuild a consistent practice is to link meditation to something you already do daily. This is called habit stacking. For example:
After I brush my teeth, I’ll sit for 2 minutes and breathe.
After I make my morning coffee, I’ll do a body scan.
After I get in the car, I’ll take three mindful breaths before driving.
By pairing meditation with an existing habit, it becomes part of your rhythm—something your nervous system starts to expect and crave. No need to reinvent your routine. Just gently weave mindfulness into it.
4. Create a Ritual You Look Forward To
Pull an Oracle card. Light a candle. Make tea or coffee. Wrap yourself in a blanket. Invite a sense of comfort into your space, so your practice feels like a gift—not a task. The more nourishing it feels, the more naturally you'll return.
5. Forgive and Begin Again (As Many Times as You Need)
Missed a day? A week? A month? You’re not behind. You’re never starting over—you’re just returning. Every time you sit, even for a moment, it counts. Let your practice be built on kindness, not criticism.
Meditation isn’t about doing it perfectly—it’s about coming home to yourself again and again and again and again.
Consistency grows from compassion, not control.
So today, begin where you are. Meet your heart.
Let your breath remind you: You’re already doing enough
